Frequently Asked Questions - FAQ's

IS THUSLICK JUST A LUBRICANT ?
Not in the sense of a liquid. Thuslick™ is a flexible micron sized solid particle,  environmentally safe additive that happens to help solve torque and drag with out damaging the formation.

HOW DOES IT REDUCE TORQUE AND DRAG ?
The particle size range is one of the keys to the success of Thuslick™ It has a diverse and intentional particle size range from 3 to 70 microns. The special PDMS coating on each plumbago particle provides the surface tension reduction and slippery effect. Combing the PDMS coating with a flexible plumbago core is a paradigm shift in environmentally safe chemistry. The coated particles are solid yet flexible and hence provide a thin layer between surface areas such as the drill pipe and the well bore and in turn provides a reduction in friction / torque and drag.

IS THERE ANY OTHER PRODUCT LIKE THUSLICK ?
No, Thuslick™ is a proprietary patented product ( Patent number 5401719 ) held by Thuslick Inc. of Houston, Texas U.S.A.

IS THUSLICK ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY
or 100% SAFE ?
Thuslick™ is 100% SAFE in all respects.

IS THUSLICK EFFECTIVE UNDER PRESSURE AND HEAT ?
Yes indeed. Thuslick™ was designed with heat and pressure in mind. The plumbago particle used to carry the silicon PDMS surface coating is imperious to heat up to 500C. Pressure enhances the effectiveness of Thuslick™ by pushing the flexible Thuslick™ particles into surface areas, resulting in a thin slick surface area of hydrophobicity, however, since Thuslick™ is STICKLESS the particles will pop back out of the surface area when the pressure is reduced in the well.

CAN THUSLICK BE USED WITH ANY KIND OF FLUIDS?
Yes because it is inert therefore it does not changes the properties of the mud's ...

CAN THUSLICK AID IN THE REPLACEMENT OF
OIL BASED MUDS (OBM) to WATER BASED MUDS (WBM) ?
Yes our experience has shown us that with the right environmental WBM, Thuslick™ can help to replace the OBM. therefore saving money in the treatment and disposal of cuttings.

DOES THUSLICK AFFECT THE RHEOLOGY ?
No Thuslick™ does not affect the rheology. At the beginning you might see a slight decrease in the rheology, but this is normal in solid lubricants. In laboratory tests it shows that this slight decrease was caused by the shearing action of the back pressure regulator of the test equipment. This shearing action is similar to that caused by jets in the drill bit.
